I have worked as a Registered Clinical Psychologist, firstly in my native Ireland and then for the past ten years here in New Zealand. I moved to Taranaki in January 2012 and have been working in private practice since that time.
I work with people who present with a range of issues which may include abuse, aggression, anxiety, attachment problems, depression, relationship difficulties, stress, self-harm, substance misuse and trauma.
- I am a registered “ACC counsellor” (ACC calls all practitioners they register to provide psychological treatment for sexual abuse an ACC Counsellor no matter what profession they are) for ACC Sensitive claims. ACC pays the full cost of counselling with an ACC Registered Counsellor for people who have been affected by inappropriate sexual behaviour.
If you want to apply for ACC Sensitive Claims counselling the first step is to fill in a form with an ACC Counsellor or your GP which they send to ACC. The form requires a very brief description of what happened. If you would like to know more about making a claim and the ACC Sensitive Claims Service please see here https://findsupport.co.nz/how-it-works/getting-started/
- I am contracted to provide 4 free therapy/counselling sessions through Taranaki Primary Connections (TPC) for young people and adults from the age of 12 upwards who have mild/moderate mental health issues and cannot afford therapy/counselling. There are referral criteria and limited availability but can possibly be accessed via your GP, Public Health Nurse (PHN) or School Guidance Counsellor (SGC).
- I am an approved therapist for the Instep Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). This is designed to support people understand and work through personal concerns which may affect job performance and can be accessed through employers.
– Similarly I am one of the therapists available through Victim Support for people who have been affected by serious crimes. This can be accessed by contacting Victim Support.
I also provide psychological services to the Family Court and provide psychological and risk assessment reports to several Youth and District Courts. In addition I conduct psychological assessments and provide therapeutic interventions for local services such as Child, Youth and Family (CYF), the Ministry of Education and START Taranaki who work with young people with complex needs. I also work with Explore Specialist Services who provide interventions to people with high and complex needs, including intellectual disability. I also have a particular interest in neuro-psychology and youth with complex presentations including challenging behaviour.
